Projects

Mixed use commercial building in the Christchurch CBD, located on the corner of Armagh and Manchester Streets. Retail and hospitality tenancies are located on the ground floor, commercial office space is located on the first floor and residential apartments on the third. A landmark building responds to corner location + urban context, a laneway cut through the site creating two separate buildings connected by a bridge. Each building is wrapped in a screen, one of brick and the other timber

A01 PROJECT: BRICK AND WOOD

Building responds to the hill site zig zagging down the slope as a path winds its way down a hill. Rooms are oriented for views, connected by a central staircase that runs down the hill like a spine. The building responds sensitively to the site by dispersing its bulk rather than concentrating the mass into one large form. Materials are selected to reflect the natural surroundings – cedar, which will weather over time, mirrored louvres – reflect the landscape + sky.

A02 PROJECT: ZIG-ZAG
